Pegasus - Humpback Whale - Megaptera novaeangliae
"The inspiration for my painting, Pegasus, came in June 1983 when I spent a day on the Stellwagen Bank in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Massachusetts with a group of whale watchers. Pegasus, a female humpback, leaped almost clear of the surface nearly 20 times, including a number of spinning breaches in which she spun around before falling back. One of her leaps was so close that she drenched us with spray on board the whale-watching boat." Sir Peter Scott
The title of the painting was 'Pegasus, a 40 Ton Humpback, Performing a Spinning Breach'. It was loaned to Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wasau, Wisconsin, for a 1987 - 1989 'Wildlife in Art' exhibition. Original painting size: 36 x 28 inches.
